The Land Around Us

‘The Land Around Us’ is a sculptural expression that embodies the forces shaping the ecological environment around Singleton. Inspired by the vast network of bushland and forests enveloping the Hunter Valley, this artwork illustrates the interconnectedness of nature and humanity. At its core, ‘The Land Around Us’ symbolies the symbiotic relationship between nature and humanity through two arcs bound by a horizontal line. The arcs represent the interplay of climate, geology, and the valley floor —once submerged beneath ancient seas, now teeming with life and history. The horizontal line depicts our timeline — past, present, and future — highlighting human intervention, awareness, and preservation. The sculpture’s delicate balance, firmly anchored yet seemingly touching the earth lightly, mirrors the ecosystem’s fragile equilibrium. Its graceful curves and evocative symbolism invite viewers to contemplate the passage of time and nature’s resilience. It serves as a reminder of our interconnectedness with the land and our responsibility to preserve its beauty and biodiversity for future generations.
