About the Project:
This major public art project was generously funded by the NSW Government and developed through a process of community engagement. Artists with a demonstrated connection to the Singleton LGA were invited to submit designs via an expression of interest process. All applications were reviewed by a selection panel consisting of local community members, Council representatives, and arts professionals. Four artists were chosen to refine their designs based on a brief to “create a sculpture that celebrates the native bushland and habitat of the Hunter Valley.” The commission was awarded to David Cianci, of the creative design studio Artscape. The artist has worked closely with Council, specialist engineers, and fabricators throughout the production and delivery of the artwork.
A Symbol of Interconnectedness:
The Land Around Us is a sculptural tribute to the ecological forces shaping Singleton’s environment. Inspired by the Hunter Valley’s bushland, it symbolizes humanity’s symbiotic relationship with nature. Through its design of arcs and a horizontal line, the sculpture reflects interconnectedness, human responsibility, and nature’s resilience, encouraging environmental preservation.
We Appreciate Your Patience and Support:
We ask for your cooperation as we carry out this exciting project, which will enhance our local cultural landscape and contribute to the region’s growing reputation as a destination for art and culture.
