SACC Chat | Furari Flores
Cara-Ann Simpson
- 2 - 3pm
Join us at 2pm on Saturday 16th of August to hear from artists Cara-Ann Simpson. Held before the exhibition opening this artist talk is a fantastic opportunity meet the artist and hear about her journey and exhibition Furari Flores.
Cara-Ann is a multidisciplinary artist with a focus on sensory engagement, digital technologies, space and the participant. Cara-Ann is engaged with cultural heritage, landscape, sensoria and how people interact with their environment.
In 2017, Cara-Ann became extremely ill, spending close to a year in hospital with an extreme brain infection, eventually being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and Neurosarcoidosis.
Furari Flores grew out of Cara-Ann’s experience with extreme illness and a life-changing diagnosis. The Latin title translates to ‘stealing flowers’, which is a literal and metaphorical interpretation of the project and her story. It also references the continued use of a ‘dead’ language in medical and botanical taxonomies. This series is Simpson’s journey of living with disability, explored as a relationship with plants and places, and a rediscovery of identity. Broadly, this exhibition is an open conversation about connections through sensory immersion, active observation, and deep listening.
This is a free event and everyone is welcome. Places are limited however so book now!
