This virtual reality experience allows users to feel the immense scale of the Liddell Power Station, hear the power being generated, and see some of the people who worked there.
This work is a historical document of the Liddell Power Station when it was still operating. It is an important snapshot of exactly what it was like.
The ‘Liddell Historical 360 VR Experience’ was created by myself and my team and is the product of two decades of digital production experience.
The work was created using a 360-degree video camera. With Seth Patayil, the Station Manager, I took the camera to locations throughout the Liddell Power Station three weeks before it was shut down. The 360 camera was set up in a location, where we hid from it, and recorded in full 360-degree video, with 360-degree audio as well.
Back in the office, the team processed the 360 video and created a 3D model of the Station which was to be our ‘Main Menu’. We then programmed to allow the user to select a specific location where the 360 video plays in the VR headset, making them feel like they are there at the Liddell Power Station.
